Lew W. Curtis, 1629 East Wood street, died Friday morning at 11 o'clock in the Decatur and Macon County hospital, following an illness of nine days. Death was caused by pneumonia following an attack of influenza.
Mr. Curtis was born in Richmond county, Ind., July 11, 1862, and was sixty-four years of age. He was united in marriage to Alice Roush in 1882, who preceded him in death. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive as follows: Mrs. W. B. Lott of Fresno, Cal. Ben Curtis, address unknown; Roy C. Curtis of Raton, N. M. ; Jesse Curtis of Beatrice, Neb. In Feb. 1900, he was married to Emma Hagy, and two children were born, George Curtis of Greenfield, Ind., and Miss Alola Curtis of Chicago. In 1912, he was married to Jennie Liming, of Decatur, who survives him. He also leaves a brother, Eli Curtis of Olney, Ill.
Mr. Curtis was a member of Decatur Lodge, No. 65 I.O.O.F., Modern Woodman of America. No. 141, and Decatur Encampment, I.O.O.F. He has been a resident of Decatur for twenty-five years. For the last twoenty years Mr. Curtis has been a machinist at the Mueller Mfg. company. The boyd was removed to Monson's chapel, 232 West Prairie.
