Henry L. Abernathy, born February 19, 1899 at Grassy, Missouri, departed this life June 26, 1950 of a cerebral hemorrhage at St. Francis Hospital. On September 1, 1922 he was united in marriage with Miss Audrey Choate, who preceded him in death December 27, 1932. To this union four children were born of whom three survive, Mrs. Melvin Goerz of Anderson, IN; and Jack and Noel, twin sons of the home. On October 1, 1934 he was united with Miss Ethel Taylor of Cape Girardeau, MO. To this union were born two children, Gary and Judy.
Mr. Abernathy was converted in 1926 at Lutesville, MO, under the ministry of Rev. Joseph McKinney; for the past twenty-four years was a member of the Church of God and remained an active and devoted member. His daily prayer was that God would lead in all the undertakings of life. He had been a member of the church board for twenty years; also served as Sunday School Supt. for a number of years.
He had been an agent with the Standard Oil Co. since 1926 and a member of Lutesville Board of Education fifteen years.
Surviving are his wife, five children, his parents Ruben M. Abernathy and Parley (Myers) Abernathy of Lutesville; three brothers, A.H. Abernathy of St. Louis; Marion Abernathy of Marble Hill; and Roy Abernathy of East Alton, IL; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Montgomery of St. Louis; and Mrs. Bessie Burke of the Castor community.
Funeral services were held June 28 at the high school gymnasium in Lutesville. Burial was in Baker Cemetery.
