John Bennett died at his home in Davis, City, Iowa on November 12, 1905. Funeral services were held at the Union Church Tuesday. The sermon being delivered by Rev. Baxter. The remains, in charge of the members of the G.A. R. Post, was taken to Bethel Cemetery and laid beside the wife of his youth.

Mr. Bennett was born in Caldwell County, Missouri on April 22, 1839. When twenty years old, he married to Nancy Jane Thomas by whom he had three sons and three daughters. His companion died while some of his children were quite small. He afterwards married Mrs. Mary Kelsey with whom he lived until her death February 1893. On June 7, 1893, he was married to Mrs. Luticia Cook whom survives him.

He served his country during the Civil war (Company G 33rd Missouri Infantry) and received an honorable discharge at the close.

In early life he united with the Baptist Church and remained a firm believer in its doctrines to the end.

About nine years ago, he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. He leaves his aged companion, three sons, three daughters and several grandchildren to mourn his departure.

He was a kind husband, a good father, a good neighbor and a generous friend. He always responded to charity's call and was ever a generous contributor to the church of his choice.
