WHITNEY - Gene Louis Burrows passed away on Tuesday, April 26 at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney. A memorial with full military honors will be held in June at the Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Gene was born on Sept 3, 1930, to Mack and Jeanne Burrows in Port Arthur. In 1966, Gene retired from serving many years in the U S Navy. That same year he married Helen Dickerson, and in the years to come they were blessed with a son and daughter. In 1975, Gene received an associates in arts degree in general education from Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Washington.
He was a lifetime member of the Fleet Reserve. Gene enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Four Seasons Bridge Club. He spent many years as a gate attendant for the Corps of Engineers.
Gene is survived by: his wife - Helen Burrows of Whitney; children - Gary Burrows and wife, Kristi, of Whitney, and Deborah Culler and husband, Danny, of Louisiana; Step-children - Linda Habor, David McCardle, Darold McCardle, Diane Schultz, Robert McCardle, Denise Culbertson,and Edward McCardle; one brother - Jim Burrows and wife, Roxy, of Louisiana; grandchildren - Chaz Burrows of Oklahoma, Crews, Jake and Brook Culler of Louisiana, and Nathan Burrows of Whitney; and a host of family and friends.
