|Birth: ||1692, Germany|
Family tradition states that he was 30 years old when he came to America. The earliest documentary evidence now known to exist regarding Leonard in Pennsylvania comes down from the year 1728. His signature as he wrote it in 1730 -- Lanert Spar -- suggests his Germanic origin. He was an elder of the pioneer German Reformed congregation at Skippack within a few years after its establishment, is suggestive of his high standing in the community. Leonard helped to bring about the organziation of Worcester Township in 1734. He was married to Elizabeth prior to coming to America.
