Enlisted (ASN: 19086324) in the Army Air Corps on 8 July 1942 at San Francisco, California.
Completed aviation cadet flight training and was commissioned (ASN O-761502) a 2nd Lt in the USAAF.
Assigned to 20th Air Force, XXI Bomber Command, 313th Bombardment Wing (VH), 9th Bomb Group, 1st Bomb Squadron, stationed at North Field on Tinian in the Mariana Islands.
On 20 May 1945, he flew in the left seat as the Airplane Command Pilot aboard a Boeing B-29 Super Fortress serial #42-24913 nicknamed "THUNDERIN' LORETTA" on a mission to mine the Straits of Shimonoseki and Maizuru Harbor, Japan.
At approximately 1825 hours, "Thunderin' Loretta" lost engine power, failed to attain flight speed, and crashed and exploded during take-off at North Field.
