Thomas Walter Hernan was born on April 18, 1902 in Charlestown, Massachusetts to Thomas Francis Hernan and Catherine Louise McCarty. His sibling were: Margaret, Catherine, Rose and Anthony. His family eventually moved to Scituate, Massachusetts and remained.
He married Laura Adelaide Pratt of Cohasset and the had four children: Thomas Jr, Donald, Robert and Elizabeth.
Thomas remarried to Dorothy Louise Corbett and they had two daughters: Louise and Faye.
Thomas was with the Cohasset Fire Department and also served many years with the Maritime Service and Coast Guard.
