John Simmering died Wednesday night, after a long illness. His health had been poor for a year, and for the last four months he had been unable to leave his bed. He was 87 years of age.

John Jacob Simmering was born in Germany in 1840, and he was reared in the old country. The early years of his manhood were spent there, and he did not come to this country until 1875, when he was 35. In 1860, he was married to Anna Zeldin. After their arrival in the United States they went straight to Greenview, Ill., and settled there, and spent most of the remainder of their lives there. Mrs. Simmering died in 1909.

Mr. Simmering came to live with his son, John Simmering, at his place northeast of town, 20 years ago, and has lived there ever since.

He is survived by six children, John, Jacob, and Mrs. William Hindahl of this community [Washington, Ia.], Joe of Greenview; Jerry of Fancy Prairie, Ill., and Mrs. Henry Rahbe of Mason City, Ill. He had also 48 grandchildren and 54 great grand-children.

The body will be taken to Greenview for burial by the side of his wife, and funeral services will be held there.
