Gladys Goodrich Karren Cook, 58, died in the local hospital Wednesday afternoon after she was fatally injured at 1:30 p.m. in an auto-pedistrian accident on the U. S. Highway 40, three miles south of Vernal.

Shortly before the accident Mrs. Cook had been visiting a daughter, Mrs. Sibyl Luck, who lives directly across the highway from the home of Mrs. Cook. She was hit as she crossed the highway to return home by Alvin Cox, 26, Artesia, Colorado.

According to highway patrolmen, the driver was unable to swerve to miss Mrs. Cook because of a truck going north and didn't have time to stop when she stepped into the path of his car.

The Naples lady was born October 23, 1893, in Vernal, a daughter of L. H., and Josephine Merrill Goodrich. In September of 1915, she married James H. Karren, who died in 1939. June 19, 1950, she married Mark N. Cook in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints.

An active member of the LDS Church. Mrs. Cook served in the Naples Ward Relief Society presidency for 30 years and has also been a Primary teacher and a worker in the Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Association.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband, a son and two daughters, Douglas Karren, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Doyle (Geraldine) Bird, Price and Mrs. Ronald (Sybil) Luck, Naples and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Naples Ward Chapel with Bishop J. Ross Merrell conducting. Friends may call at the Vernal Mortuary Friday evening or at the home of Mrs. Ronald Luck Saturday before the time of services.

Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Cemetery.

NAPLES--Funeral services for Gladys Karren Cook who was fatally injured June 18, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Naples Chapel under the direction of Bishop J. Ross Merrill. Prayer at the home was offered by Louis S. Gardiner.

At the services the invocation was offered by Byron Goodrich. Singing was furnished by a mixed chorus consisting of Byron, Jerome, Orlo, Lowe, Rhea, Mr. and Mrs. Jean Goodrich, Ashel and LaVell Manwaring and the grave was dedicated by John Cook of Roosevelt. Pallbearers were six brothers of the deceased, Charles, Wallace, Delroy, Lyle, Ashley and Cliff Goodrich. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Vernal Mortuary.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband, Mark N. Cook, two daughters and a son, Sibyl Karren Luck of Vernal, Mrs. Geraldine K. Bird of Price and Douglas Karren of Salt Lake City and seven grandchildren.

Among those attending from outside points were Mrs. Eldona Goodrich, Mrs. Donna Lee Cook, Mrs. Hazel Moncur and Mrs. Paul Bassett and daughter Myrtle, all of Lovell, Wyoming; Hattie Beebe of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Roy Wilcoxen and two daughters of Price; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hardy and daughter Rayma of Lapoint; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Lamoreaux and family of Orem; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Nall of Craig; Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Elvan Bascom, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis G. Hullinger and John Cook of Roosevelt and Kydia Peatross of Myton.

Gladys Goodrich Karren Cook, 58, died at 2:30 p.m. on June 18, 1952 at the Uintah County Hospital, in Vernal, Uintah County, Utah of a compound skull fracture after being hit by a car at 1:15 p.m.

She was born October 23, 1894 in Vernal, Utah to Lewis H. Goodrich and Josephine Merrill Goodrich. She married James Henry Karren September 24, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah. To this union were born four children. Her husband, James died in 1939.

On June 19, 1950 she married Mark Nuttal Cook.

Interment was made in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery, Vernal, Utah on June 20, 1952, Vernal Mortuary handled the funeral arrangements.

Surviving her are her husband Mark Nuttal Cook, three children, Sibyl Cook Luck, Douglas D (Eloise) Cook and Geraldine Cook Bird. She was preceded in death by her first husband and one son, Milton, who died in 1926.
