She was 95 years old. Hazel was a lifetime resident of Colorado. She was born on October 21, 1911 on Horsefly Mesa in San Miguel County to George and Jessie (Sparks) Taylor. She spent her childhood there as well as on Hastings Mesa graduating from Ouray High School. She went on to get her Practical Nursing license on September 1, 1952 and worked in Denver and Montrose hospitals. She also worked at the Littleton large animal clinic in Littleton, CO. Hazel married Thomas Adolph Jordan in June, 1929 in Saquache, CO and later divorced. She married Forrest Day Moon on March 11, 1951 in Denver, CO. Hazel loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved to read, sew, quilt, and crochet. She was a member of the VMCCA antique car club and Women of the Moose of Grand Junction. Hazel loved to dance and was a regular at the Older American Center where she also volunteered her time to take lunch tickets. She drove the Mesabilty van for a number of years and often laughed about the fact that she was older than most of the people she was driving around. In her later years she became involved with the cowboy poet gatherings and often told stories of her colorful life. Hazel traveled to Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and numerous states in her 1953 Studebaker with the antique car club. Her greatest love was her horses and she was involved with race horses in Denver, CO as well as the Appaloosa Horse Club, and Little Britches Rodeos in the area. Hazel was devoted to her horses and her cats. Hazel is survived by her son, Jesse Jordan of Grand Junction; daughter, Betty (Ed) McElroy of Yoakum, TX; and son, Orrin (Cindy) Moon of Woody Creek, CO; brother, Walt (Camilla) Taylor of Eckert, CO; along with eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Thelma, husbands, Adolph and Forrest, son, Gene Jordan of Bayfield, CO and daughter in law, Glennys Jordan of Grand Junction. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO with Forrest, per her wishes. A memorial service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction, CO on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers in Hazel's name to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, PO Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
