Don J. Hams
Don Hams passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on March 16, 2012, in the company of his beloved wife Dolores.
Don moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 1985 with his first wife Helen. They were married for 44 years before her death in 1989. Don and Dolores married in 1994 and shared 18 wonderful years together.
Don is also survived by his three children, Marcia, Stephen and Brad Hams; as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Don was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., served in the Navy during WWII, graduated from Marquette University, and worked professionally as a civil engineer for nearly 40 years.
Don was known and beloved by his family and many friends for his enthusiastic embrace of life and eternal optimism. He was an avid snow skier, tennis player, birder and hiker. He was a jazz lover and collector of recordings, and loved to dance. He explored the world through traveling, camping and reading. Don was an active member and formerly on the board of Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation. His greatest interest, though, was meeting and getting to know people, and nothing was more important to him than his family.
In lieu of flowers, Don left word that he would appreciate contributions to the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation Religious Education program, 882 Sunset Ave., Prescott, AZ 86305.
A celebration of Don's life will be at the above address from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012. All friends of Don's are welcome.
