Son of Patrick and Nora (Meany) Cody. Married Catherine Powers on February 19, 1855 at Davenport, Iowa.

Manilla Times (Manilla, Iowa), September 17, 1908, p. 1, col. 3

On last Tuesday morning at his home northeast of town occurred the death of one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this community. Wm. Cody has been in failing health for some time and while there was no particular organic ailment, the ravages of ninety years told on him and he answered the final summons.

Mr. Cody was born at Newtown county, Clare, Ireland, in the year 1818, and emigrated to America in 1845. In 1858 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Powers who preceded him to the grave some few years ago. From the time of his marriage, Clinton, Scott and Crawford counties have been his home. He leaves to mourn his loss three sons, Thomas and Michael of Manilla and Patrick of Vail; also two daughters Mary and Katie and two sisters, Mrs. James O'Neill of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Halliman of Chicago.

The funeral which was very largely attended, was held from St. Ann's church in Vail. A requiem high Mass was read by Rev. James Murphy, jr. and a splendid funeral sermon preached by Rev. James Murphy, pastor of St. Ann's church of Vail, an old and devoted friend of the deceased. Father Murphy spoke at length of the Christian life and character of Mr. Cody and emphasized the necessity of being always prepared to meet death no matter when, where or how it may come. The services at the grave were performed by Rev. J. F. O'Neill and Rev. J. A. O'Neill, nephews of "Uncle Mike."

The pall bearers were: Thos. Carey, John McMahon, Martin McNertney, Jeremiah O'Connor, Wm. McMahon and Patrick Hanrahan.
