Dale Alan Kerr, Sr., 70, of Templeton, Boggs Township, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at the Armstrong County Health Center.

He was born October 16, 1941, in Kittanning, a son of Martha E. (Best) Kerr, of Dayton, and the late R. Glenn Kerr.

Dale was a retired mortgage manager for Armstrong County Building and Loan in Ford City and formerly worked at Beneficial-Equibank in Forest Hills. He served as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class in the US Navy. Along with his brother, Jim, Dale served on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain that recovered Commander Alan Shepard, America's first astronaut, on May 5, 1961 after Shepard's Mercury space capsule splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean. He was a member of Sloan Hill Church, Templeton and was a former member of the Ford City Lions. He enjoyed his car, yard and dog.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kim Mains Kerr, whom he married March 15, 1986; a son, Dale A. Kerr, Jr. and his wife, Susan; daughter, Dawn Renee and her husband, Kevin Andryka, of West Kittanning; grandchildren, Brandon G. Andryka, Nicole L. Andryka, Tyler Kerr and Makenzy Kerr; brothers, James H. Kerr, of Kittanning, Edward R. Kerr, of Seminole, Fla., and David M. Kerr, of Ford City; and a sister, Glenda M. (Robert) Burns, of Dayton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Amanda Wilson, Ashley Wilson, Josie Mains, Merissa Smith, Mary Kerr, Adela Kerr, Rob Burns, Matthew Wilson, Leif Kerr and Patrick Kerr; and his faithful companion, Dakota.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his niece, Cathy Burns. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at MANTINI FUNERAL HOME, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Matt Phillips.
