Roland "Shorty" Fischer, 77, of Concordia, formerly of Emma, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the church. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Roger Fuchs, Larry Fischer, Robert Fischer, Ronald Fischer, Estel Evans, Steve Koester, Ed Perschbacher, Lee Reagles, Steven Fuchs and George Schroll. Burial with military rights will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.

Born Aug. 13, 1926, in Emma, he was the son of the late August Fischer and Ida Heermann Fischer. On June 11, 1950, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he married Melba Jean Marth, who survives of the home. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia and various church boards. He owned and operated Favorite Cafe and later Western Auto, from 1966 to 1988. He was also employed by the Concordia Farmers Co-op and worked as a carpenter, mail carrier and bus driver.

Additional survivors include one sister, Eleonora Fuchs of Concordia, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
