Kermit B. Hensley, 94, of Connersville, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Heritage House of Connersville where he had resided since August 2007.
Kermit was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, May 1, 1916, the third of eleven children born to Christopher Columbus and Anna Saylor Hensley. He attended school in Kentucky and moved to Indiana with his family. On January 18, 1936, he was married in East Connersville to the former Mary G. Noe, who died November 5, 2006. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and had been employed as a press operator at Stant Manufacturing for 41 years. Kermit had also farmed near Andersonville. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Kermit is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Joyce E. and Don Crutchfield of Connersville; two grandsons and their wives: Derek and Lorrie Crutchfield, Brett and Danielle Crutchfield, all of Indianapolis; five grandchildren: Alexia, Mackenzie, Gabe, Landon and Collier Crutchfield; three sisters: Melissa Thompson and Elva Meyers, both of Connersville, Uyvonna Hayes and her husband, Amos, of Bloomington; a brother: Rev. Kenneth Hensley of Mabank, Texas; two sisters-in-law: Mary Hensley and Lucy Noe, both of the Connersville area; several nieces and nephews.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years; an infant daughter: Judith Marlene Hensley; four sisters: Myrtle Cheatham, Minnie O. White, Vivian Opal, Virginia Hubbell; two brothers: Ulysses and Quenton Hensley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Randall Collins of the Connersville Baptist Temple, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery.
