Veda Ruth Byrd Nelson Frautschi, 88, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Twinbrooke South Nursing Home in San Benito, Texas. Veda Ruth was born June 27, 1919, to George and Clarissa Byrd in Wayne County, Ind. She was a graduate of Reid Memorial School of Nursing and served 22 years at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind. After the death of her daughter, Ruth Ann, she built a home for herself and daughter, Roberta, in Greens Fork, Ind., and lived there until she married Mr. Frautschi, then moving to Texas. She was well known and appreciated for her cake decorating abilities. She enjoyed square dancing and was an avid quilter and accomplished seamstress. Veda Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen, Texas. She loved the Lord and daily read her Bible.
Survivors include her son, Robert A. Nelson of Joshua, Texas, and her sister, Naomi (Marvin) Green of Fountain City, Ind. Also surviving is her husband, Richard Frautschi of Harlingen and his children, David (Martha) of New Richmond, Ohio, Anna (John) Eberhardt of Beaverton, Ore., and Helen Frautschi of Wilsonville, Ore.; four grandchildren, Kristin and Sean Nelson, David and Linda Frautschi; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Robert Anton Nelson; daughters, Ruth Ann and Roberta Arlene; her parents; three sisters, Annabelle, Garnet, and Tabitha.
Burial in Elkhorn Cemetery.
