Note from "Ye OLD BURYING GROUND OF FAIRFIELD, CONN." by Kate Perry, p. 27: "Captain Brewster was a large powerful man. He resided in Black Rock."

Son of Benjamin Brewster b. 27 Sept 1713 d. 14 March 1782
and Mehetable Unknown
Benjamin Brewster was the grandson of Daniel Brewster and Anna Jayne

He served on a whaling vessel when very young. This prepared him with an expert knowledge of the waters. In the Rev. War he was a very important factor of the "Culper Spy Ring." It was he, who ferried messages about the British, generally between Sautaket on Long Island across to Conn.. there they were realyed on to Benjamin Tallmage and then to General George Washington.

He was able to avoid British detection as he used various coves in the area of Setuaket in his small whale boat, as he made dangerous night trips back and forth.

After the war he settled down marrying Anna Lewis. He worked on his farm and did some black smithing. Between 1793 and 1816, when he retired he was in the employment of the new government serving in the capacity on a ship that was working on preventing smuggling. He finally retired to his farm at Black Rock where he lived out the remainder of his life.
