ASHTABULA - Leona G. Bailey, 89, died Friday, February 6, 2004 at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 6, 1914 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Lewis H. and Elizabeth M. (Dickson) Williams
She was a 1932 Graduate Ashtabula High School.
Leona and her husband owned Bunker Hill Confectionery and managed motels in Islamorada, FL and Brecksville, OH as well as apartments houses in Detroit, MI and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They also managed concession stands at Saybrook Twp. Park and Geneva-on-the-Lake, and a Lawsons Store in Painesville, OH.
A very artistic lady, Mrs. Bailey was an animal lover, a seamstress, & a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed camping, ceramics, bowling, and politics. She served in several offices at Chestnut Elementary P.T.A., but most of all, she was a wonderful and loving mother.
Survivors include: Three children, Daria DiDonato of Jefferson, Jerry Bailey of Ashtabula, and Tom Bailey of Rock Creek, 13 grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Boyd Bailey, whom she married Sept. 16, 1939 at the First Christian Church in Ashtabula, and her parents.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday February 11, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with Rev. Ken Williams, Pastor of Gageville United Methodist Church and Rev Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of Pentecostal Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 10:00 until time of service at the funeral home.
