Myron J. Firkus

Myron J. Firkus, 78, 156 West Randolph St., Rosholt, a former Rosholt Village Board member, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at his home. He had been under the care of hospice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt, with the Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel and from 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the services. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

A memorial will be established in his name in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Firkus was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Alexander and Theodosia "Ida" (Platta) Firkus. He attended St. Adalbert Catholic School and graduated from Rosholt High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1943 where he served as a seaman first class during World War II. He was honorably discharged in March 1946.

In 1956 he founded Rosholt Building Materials, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1986.

He was married to Julianne Grube on Nov. 10, 1984, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt.

He was a member of Rosholt Village Board for 15 years and a past member of the St Adalbert Men's Rosary Society.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert (Mary) Joesel, Woodland Hills, Calif., and Myron A. Firkus, Rosholt; four daughters, Brenda Joesel, Los Angeles, Calif., Judy (Ron) Gonzales, Rosholt, Catherine (Denis) Poole, Aptos, Calif., and Marcia (Scott) Czerwonka, Elderon; two stepsons, Richard Grube, Oregon, and Ronald Grube, Rosholt; three stepdaughters, Cheryl (John) Zipfel, North Prairie, Renee (Donald) Grube, Birchwood, and Denise (Brian) Burclaw, Pulaski; one brother, Emil Firkus, Florida; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Grace Knitter; and three brothers, Frank, Connie and Chester.
