Both James M. Imel and Mamie F. Nash were residing at Faulkner, Cherokee County, Kansas at the time of their marriage. He was aged 22 and she was aged 24. They were married by the Probate Judge, a Mr. J. Ellis.

Jim and Mamie made their home about one mile west of Faulkner all their lives, except for a two to three year period when they moved to Richmond, California. There Jim worked in the shipyards as a welder from 1942-1944 during the WWII. They returned home after the war to their farm home and lived until Jim died.

CHETOPA--James Madison Imel, 77, died at 11 o'clock Tuesday night, Feb. 27, in Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri where he had been a patient for two weeks. The son of Joseph A. and Cordelia (Lewis) Imel, he was born March 17, 1895, in Guthrie, Oklahoma and moved to Kansas in a covered wagon with his family when he was nine years old.

The family settled near Faulkner where he grew to manhood and lived most of his life.

Imel retired from active farming when he was 65 years old. A member of the American Legion in Columbus, he served in France with the U.S. Army during World War I. He was also a member of the Faulkner Christian Church.

He was survived by his five daughters and his wife, Mamie. He was also survived by three brothers Albert, Gilbert and Luther, all of Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Lovelady of Rt. 1, Chetopa, Kansas, and Mrs. William Hickman of Marshall, Virginia; eighteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Wilma Holt preceded him in death in 1970. Two brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Services were held at 1 pm Thursday in the Hammons Funeral Home in Oswego, burial in North Edna Cemetery. The family requested memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
