***** Roy Duke Chitwood
I am Roy's sister. In reading his page there is a message from Timothy Allman stating that Roy had a brother. That is not correct, I am Roy's only sibling.
Also someone gave me the middle name of Ann. I do not have a middle name.

Our Mother died in Austin, TX and is buried in Charleston, MS.
Our Father died in Houston, TX and was cremated.
I am not able to tell you the disposition of the ashes.
Thank you for correcting my name. As for the statement about Roy having a brother I guess you can't change that since someone else wrote it

***** I was with Roy when he was hit. We were separated and I never knew just what happened. He had a brother, who was a chopper pilot and I made my last flight with him. Roy, take care, someday, I will see you again.
Timothy Allman

***** My name is Dave Cook and I served with Roy at Ft. Bragg in '64. He had re-joined the Army after a break in service of several years. He had gone through a bitter divorce and was tomented by the fact that he couldn't see his baby daughter. We talked quite a few times of that and how bad he missed "his little girl." He did have a snapshot of her and she was the most important thing in his life. We became buddies and hung around together. I left F. Bragg for the 101st Airborne in '64 and we lost touch. I went out to Nam in '65 with the 1st Bn 327 Infantry, 1st Bde 101st Airborne and did my year long tour. Many years passed and I never heard of Roy again until a comrade of mine sent me a copy of "The Directory of Names," which lists alphabetically every name that is chiseled on the Wall. I had the book for awhile and one night I happened to just open for no particular reason and the first name my eyes fell on was Roy D. Chitwood's. Even though it had been over 30 years, seeing his name and realizing that he had been killed still hit hard. I also thought about his daughter and wondered if she ever knew how much he loved her. Since I now have a daughter of my own I now better understand his feelings regarding her and his broken marriage. I have learned since that Roy was a member of the 2nd 502 Infantry's Headquarters Company Recondo platoon but know nothing else about his death. Where ever his little girl is today she should know that she has one brave daddy who is sleeping for the flag.
