Virgil Banning Dies; Funeral At Novinger

Virgil E. Banning, 53, of Quincy, died at his home Sunday evening at six o'clock following a lingering illness.

Born Oct. 14, 1913 at Novinger, he was the son of Major and Lee (Robison) Banning.

Surviving are his father of Novinger; two sons, James E. Banning and F. Dale Banning, both of Quincy; two daughters, Sharon Kay Banning and Carol Sue Banning, both of Novinger; three grandchildren, Terry, Shellie and James Banning, all of Quincy, and two brothers, Frank Banning of Joliet, Ill., and James Banning of Rock Island, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Raymond Banning, in January 1965.

Mr. Banning resided in Novinger until 24 years ago when he moved to Quincy. Until his retirement due to ill health on Oct. 1, 1960, he was employed as a scaleman for the Packing Corporation of America in Quincy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in the Novinger Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Meldrum, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in the Novinger cemetery.

The body will be at the Hensen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy until Wednesday morning when it will be taken to the church, arriving there at ten o'clock.
