J.B. Burks, 84, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 at his home. He was born June 6, 1925, in Durant, Okla., to Southern Higgs and Delia Mae Busby Burks. He served with the 4th Marine Division during World War II and received a Purple Heart for his service at Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged as a corporal. He was retired from J.E. Love Co. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Milam Burks of Etta; one son, Jim Burks (Pam) of Collierville, Tenn.; one sister, Kathryn Taylor (Clyde) of Oakland, Tenn.; two grandsons, Jon Bryce and Blake Burks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ellen Morris and Esther Norwood.
