Amy Eris Derotha "Billie" Boyd Coupland, age 97, passed away on August 17, 2011, after a brief illness. Billie spent her retirement years in Williamsburg, New Mexico. Before moving to Williamsburg, she resided on the Coupland Ranch in Nogal Canyon, New Mexico. Billie was preceded in death by her husband, George, son, Orlen, parents, Ollie Foster Boyd and Dallas Boyd, five sisters, Eva, Elizabeth, Bernice, Bobbie and Ethel and one grandson, Bobby. Billie and her twin sister, Bobbie were born on September 20, 1913 on a farm in Wedowee, Alabama. The family consisted of six girls. When Billie was seventeen years old, her family moved to New Mexico, where she met her husband, George. George and Billie were married on December 26, 1932 and shared 67 years together. They had three children, Orlen, Lucille and Deanna. Billie was a devout Christian and a member of the Episcopal Church. Billie was an excellent cook. Family lore has it that one old cowboy would trade his entire lunch for one of Billie's sourdough biscuits. Another was heard to say that Billie could even make grease brush taste good! Billie was a talented musician, and played the piano beautifully. Billie spent many hours accompanying her husband and other fiddle players, and was inducted into the New Mexico Old Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame. Billie was also an accomplished, prolific artist; she discovered this talent when she was 65 years old. Billie specialized in oil paintings depicting the Southwest, and signed her work as "Sassy," the nickname given to her by her husband. Billie is survived by her daughters, Lucille Coupland Shivers of Elephant Butte, New Mexico and Deanna Coupland Clark of Anchorage, Alaska. Her surviving grandchildren are, Russ Shivers of Juneau, Alaska, Mike Shivers of Nogal Canyon Ranch, New Mexico, Karla Stinehart of Lordsburg, New Mexico, Kristen Coupland of Chandler, Arizona, Jason Clark of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, George Clark of Lacey, Washington and Amanda Kramer of Anchorage, Alaska. Billie's great-grandchildren are, Rusty Shivers and Maureen Shivers of Juneau, Alaska, Meagan Dudley of Eagle River, Alaska, Mary Beth Shivers, Bailey Shivers, and Michelle Shivers of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Noah Stinehart, Luke Stinehart and Lane Stinehart of Lordsburg, New Mexico, Troy Clark and Xavier Clark of Rio Rancho New Mexico and Clara Jee of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Billie's great-great-grandchildren are, Caden Dudley of Eagle River, Alaska and Aiden Jee of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Graveside services are planned for August 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Socorro Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Means officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Shivers, Russ Shivers, Mike Shivers, Jason Clark, George Clark, Rob Stinehart, James Kramer, Rusty Shivers, Sam Dudley and Berry Cox. A reception and celebration of life will follow at a location to be announced at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to a Hospice located in the contributor's community.

Billie was my Godmother and my father's cousin. As a child I stayed at the ranch with them many times and in town to go to Vacation Bible School. It was she who shared her Lord with me one summer and for that I am eternally grateful. God Bless her! Georg...(Read more)
