SAN ANGELO - Our beloved son, brother, husband, father, Papa and dear friend David Lee Cate entered Heaven on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009. David passed away at Shannon Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 62. David was born on Dec. 31, 1946, in San Angelo, Texas, to Ruby and David Cate. He chose to live in San Angelo, the town he loved, his entire life. He attended and graduated from Lake View High School. David married the love of his life, Louann Hines in 1981. David retired from Verizon after 30 years of dedicated service. Left to cherish David's memory are his beloved wife, Louann Cate; his son, David Stephen Cate and daughter-in law Victoria Ramirez-Cate of San Angelo; and his precious grandson, Nicholas David Cate. David is also survived by his mother, Ruby Zoellner of San Angelo; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Billye Hines of Levelland, Texas; brother Gene Sherrod and wife Sharon of San Angelo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vic and Paula Hines, Larry and Marybeth Hines, all of Lubbock; nephew Bren Hines of Lubbock; and nieces Carrie Hines Sherman and husband Steve and their children Katie and Zannah of Fort Worth, Becky and Ski Saboski and daughter Rhiana Saintsing and granddaughter Tatum Way, all of San Angelo, Michelle and Matt Turner and children Megan and Mason of Denton; Christi and Kirk Wood and children Christian, Cameron, and Kimrey of Iowa; Sara and Patrick Egan and children Slade, Mackensie and Bailey of Ballinger will remember Uncle David. He is survived by aunts and uncles, William and Karen Clark and Robert and Pauline Greer of San Angelo, H.V. Clark and Joyce of Odessa. David will be missed by special friends Barry and Rhonda Legg and the Werner Halfmann family. David was preceded in death by his father; nephew, Mark Hines and niece Brandi Hines. Funeral service for David will be Friday, Feb. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church on College Hills in San Angelo, with burial to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Garden, Services will be officiated by Ricky Sanderford and Ken Dahlberg, Pallbearers will be Barry Legg, Werner Halfmann, Craig Halfmann, Mike Halfmann, and Donald Baker. Family visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 26. Memorial donations may be made to the Concho Country Emmaus Community. The family thanks all the many people who are truly the "hands and feet" of God as they provided prayer, visits and words and gifts of comfort. The family would also like to say a special thanks to the entire Shannon ICU staff, especially Jeanine, a true angel for Louann; and a very special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rustmann and Dr. DeMory for such professional medical care of David and for true compassion for our family. We know the best of the best were caring for David. Very special thanks to the Homeward Bound Reunion Group who cared for us with such love and care. "We love you... mean it!" We love you " Papa" and you will always be held deeply in hearts. With a "Great big Hug and a Kiss from us to you..."
