Arietta May Arriza, 81, of Yakima, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Arriza was born September 25, 1922 in Rockwood, CO to Walter and Edna (Tyler) Dufur. She married Louie David Arriza on November 2, 1949 in Aztec, NM. They lived
in Durango, CO for three years, then moved to Lynnwood, WA where they lived for over 45 years. She moved to Yakima following the death of her husband in 1998.
Mrs. Arriza was a member of Lake Stickney Community Club, Everette Trailer Club, and Yakima Lion's Club. She loved ceramics and was well known throughout the community for her generosity in making ceramic gifts for nursing home residents as well as family and neighbors. She made Halloween pumpkins and ghosts out of ceramics and filled them for the area children at Halloween. She was like Mrs. Santa Claus and there wasn't anything she couldn't do.
Mom was a wonderful story teller, and frequently quoted the old sayings. She had a tremendous sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. "Hit the penny, hit the nickel, hit
the dime, hit the quarter."
She is survived by a son, Rick Arriza; three daughters, Sandra Schuh, Shirley Arriza, and Sharron Goodrich; five
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 23, 2004 at 11:00am at the Terrace Heights Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Interment will be Monday, January 26th at
11:30am in Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.
