HOISINGTON Leon L. Martin, 83, died June 3 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born Sept. 21, 1926, at Drumwright, Okla., the son of Melville E. and Dorothy (Fisher) Martin. He married Bertha M. Kunze on Dec. 11, 1949, at Broken Arrow, Okla. He was an employee of Phillips Petroleum, retiring in 1986 after 36 years service. He had been a resident of Hoisington for 58 years, coming from Borger, Texas. He was a World war II veteran with the Coast Guard.

Mr. Martin was a member of Member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Mason Lodge No. 331 A.F.& A.M., and American Legion Post No. 286 of Hoisington; Wichita Consistory and Isis Shrine, Salina; Order of Eastern Star and UNA Chapter No. 119, Hoisington. Leon was very involved with the Hoisington Little League from 1957 to 1972. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved to camp in Arkansas. His "home away from home" was on the White River in Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Mark L. (Sandy) Martin of Hoisington; three daughters, Jozet F. (Mike) Littrell of Hoisington, Shari A. (Craig) Weeks of Burlingame and Alesia L. Martin Hanners of Arnold, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Aaron P. Weeks of Bloomington, Ind., Kara J. (Kim) Gardner of Hoisington, Amber D. (Derek David) Martin of Bentley, KS; Ami M. (Heath) Klein of Atwood, KS, Justin W. (Samantha) Martin of Hoisington, Alison P. Hanners of Arnold, Mo., and Blake M. Hanners of Arnold, Mo.; great-grandchildren Hadleigh J. Gardner, Hayden M Gardnerand Mason W. Martin; and a nephew, Tommy Martin, Moore, Okla. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Melville.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with the Rev. Steven Little Officiating. Funeral service will be from 10 a.m. Monday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hoisington. Burial will be at the Hoisington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Kans for Kids or Hoisington Little League, in care of the funeral home, Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
