Petra Montoya Luna, 86, of Tulare, California entered eternal life Saturday, August 12, 2006. She was born May 6, 1920 in Tortugas to Juan and Josepha Montoya. Petra moved to Tulare, California in 1961 where she was a dedicated member of Saint Rita's Catholic Church; La Sociedad de Guadalupanas and La Edad de Oro. Petra was blessed with healing hands that brought many families health and happiness. She never knew a stranger and welcomed everyone to her home.
Survivors include two brothers, Juan Montoya, Manuel Montoya and wife Minnie all of Tortugas; five daughters, Amanda Luna, Carmen Gutierrez and Irene Pena all of Visalia, California, Margaret Garcia of Nipomo, California and Dora Luna of Los Osos, California; three sons, Lorenzo "Chuki" Luna and wife Andrea of Porterville, California, Pete Luna and wife Eva, Jesse Luna and wife Gloria all of Tulare, California. Other survivors include five generations of grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; ten brothers; three children, Josephine, Manuel and Joe Luna.
Visitation for Petra will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2006 in Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas where Recitation for the Holy Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2006 in the same church with Reverend Donald Adamski officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Tortugas Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
Serving as casket bearers will be Alberto Jr., Theodore, Eddie R., and Felix Montoya, Roberto and Tony Granado.
