James H. BEADLE and Lucy C. STREETER who came with their family to Crossville from Iowa in October 1888 [Crossville Newspapers, p. 55]. James H. was born 18 September 1837; died of apoplexy at Crossville, Cumberland Co., Tennessee 26 January 1900; buried at Crossville Cemetery, Cumberland Co., Tennessee [His Obituary, Crossville Chronicle, Thurs., 31 Jan. 1900; Cumberland County Cemetery Records, p. 25].

At least two children of J.H. and Lucy resided at Ellington, Hancock Co., Iowa [Crossville Newspapers, p. 180, 206]. J.H., of Ellington, and Lucy, of East Waterloo, were married at Cedar Falls, Iowa 1 January 1866 by Rev. L.B. FIFIELD, pastor of the Congregational Church [C.W. Invalid Pension Cert. No. 118867; Crossville Chronicle, 3 Mar. 1927]. From 1860 until 1887 J.H. and family resided at Ellington, Hancock Co., Iowa.

Children of J.H. and Lucy living on 4 July 1898 included: 1. James E., b. 2 March 1867, resided at Council Bluffs, Iowa Dec. 1924 [Crossville Chronicle, 11 Dec. 1924], 2. Laura A., b. 7 February 1871, 3. Thomas J., b. 11 October 1872, 4. Lillie L., b. 12 Nov. 1875, married F.E. COOK, died 1897, resided at Forest City, Iowa April 1897 [Crossville Newspapers, p. 206], 5. Percy V., b. 12 July 1878, 6. Lottie? A., b. 31 March 1880, and 7. Harry E., b. 18 Feb. 1882; d. 22 Aug. 1963 [C.W. Invalid Pension Cert. No. 118867; Cumberland County Cemetery Records, p. 29].

James H., enrolled at Forest City, Iowa 21 December 1861 as a private in Company C, 12th Regiment, US Infantry, and was discharged 19 April 1865. He was taken prisoner in December 1864. J.H. was a commander of the GAR, Post No. 55, Crossville, Tennessee [Crossville Newspapers, p. 79, 85]. He served in the Federal Army for four years, and saw service in the Second Battle of Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Gettysburg, and served with Grant for forty days in the Wilderness. He was taken prisoner in the battle of Welden Railroad, and was imprisoned at Belle Isle, Libby, and Salsburg, North Carolina prisons [His Obituary].
