William Brush, county pioneer, passes away. Death at 2:40 Monday afternoon, ended the suffering of William R. Brush, 71, old resident of Liscomb, who had lived in Marshall County for 65 years. Mr. Brush had been failing for 2 years and had been confined to his bed for 6 weeks. Death was due to cancer of the stomach. On October 14, 1924, Mr. and Mrs. Brush celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. Brush was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Brush and was born near Middlebury, IN on March 6th, 1853. His mother died when he was 3 and in 1860 his father took his 3 little children, Ira, William and Elizabeth and joined the Arney and Speas family and drove west, settling in Timber Creek Township. Kind women cared for the motherless children on the journey, and again while the father served in the Civil War, the children were carried for by relatives and neighbors. At the close of the war Miles Brush married Mrs. Mary Lacey, who is now Mrs. Mary Van Allen of Ferguson. When he was 18 years old, Mr. Brush came to the Liscomb neighborhood. He married Miss Nancy E. Dinnell on October 14th, 1874. Mr. and Mrs. Brush lived on farms near Liscomb until they moved to their present home in Liscomb. They are the parents of three children: Mrs. George Van Slyke, Orley and Lemert Brush all of Liscomb. Aside from his wife and children and his aged stepmother, Mr. Brush is survived by two half-brothers, D. E. Brush, Ferguson, S. L. Brush, Albion, a half-sister, Mrs. Eva Squires, Bellflower, California and a step-sister, Mrs. Ida Haight, Johnstown, PA. The funeral will be held at the Christian Church, Thursday at 2 p.m., in charge of Reverend W. J. Hastie, assisted by Reverend George W. Biersborn. Pray service will be held at the house at 1:30 p.m. - The Times Republican, February 10th, 1925.
