Chicago Sun Times, Monday, February 15, 1993. Dr. Joseph S. Dedinsky, 78, , a long-time dental surgeon in Milwaukee and father of former Sun-Times Managing Editor, Mary Dedinsky, died Friday after a heart attack at Mount Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee. Dr. Dedinsky, a resident of Shorewood, Wisconsin, practiced medicine on the South Side of Milwaukee for 50 years. He was widely known and recognized in Milwaukee for donating his services to the poor. ‘He cared for a lot of people who didn't have money', said Ralph Barutha, a patient of Dr. Dedinsky's for many years. ‘People would begin to line up at his office at seven in the morning and he wouldn't leave until everyone was taken care of', Barutha said. ‘Sometimes that would be 2 or 3 a.m.' ‘His motto was, ‘Everyone is entitled to dental care', said Lois Dedinsky, his wife. Dr. Dedinsky was still practicing at the time of his death. He received his undergraduate degree at St. Vincents College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and earned a doctorate in dental surgery from Marquette University in Milwaukee. From 1952 to 1955 he served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. During his career, Dr. Dedinsky received numerous professional awards and commendations. He was nominated for the Jefferson Award for service to the Milwaukee community. He also was recognized for outstanding service to the community by the Scandinavian American Home in Milwaukee. He is survived by his wife; a son, John of East Palo Alto, California; a daughter, Mary Dedinsky of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Gilbert of San Jose, California and Henry of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and three sisters, Helen Petrosky and Henrietta Dedinsky, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Agnes Bauer of Smock, Pennsylvania. Services were held at the Gesu Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with burial at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee.
