Alphonse "Allie" H. Berg, 81, of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at St. Michael's Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June2, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with the Rev. Timothy Wenzel officiating. Internment followed in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Honor Guard.
Alphonse "Allie" H. Berg was born in Elrosa to John and Barbara (Kramer) Berg. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1947. He married Lola C. Hesse on Jan. 16, 1943, in Berkeley, Calif. After the war they moved to Sauk Centre where he was employed by Otto Brothers as a mechanic. He was employed by the Sauk Centre Post Office since 1959 as a letter carrier and custodian. He also worked part-time as a custodian for First State Bank, Sauk Centre. Allie was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Lola of Sauk Centre; children, Barbara Mingus and her husband Larry, of Ft. Myers, Fla., Kitty Detterman and her husband Dan, of Side Lake, Minn., twin sons, Charlie Berg and his wife, Judy, of St. Cloud and Michael "Jim" Berg and his wife, Brenda, of Sauk Centre; and six grandchildren, Shane and Eric Detterman, Matt Berg, Jill, June and Steph Berg.
He was preceeded in death by his son, Raymond Berg and daughter Kathleen Marie Berg; brothers and sisters, Fred Berg, Katherine Zimmer, Clara Held, Hilda Noggle, Chris Berg, Marie Kallin, Sylvester Berg and Barbara Martin.
Pall bearers were Bill Berg, Dick Berg, Bernard Berg, John Schwitalla, Skip Hesse and Kenny Miller.
Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Walther, Merlin Rasmusen, DonVeeder, Kenny Ethun and Joe Beste.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Service, Sauk Centre.
