OBITUARY :
JESSE A. BACHTELL, 82, of Rt. 3, Smithsburg, died Wednesday morning at Clearview Nursing Home.

Born in Edgemont, he was a son of Harry A. and Edith Weddle Bachtell, and had lived all his life in the Smithsburg area. He had been employed by the Western Maryland Railway for a number of years, and later owned and operated a farm near Ringgold.

Prior to his retirement in 1966, he was employed at Cavetown Planing Mills for 11 years. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Howard Leather and Mrs. Kenneth Barkdoll, both of Rt. 3, Smithsburg; sons, Guy M. Bachtell of El Paso, Tex., and R. Jesse Bachtell of Waynesboro, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and half-sisters, Mrs. Mae Frey and Mrs. Eva Reynolds, both of Rt. 3, Smithsburg, Mrs. Goldie Stottlemyer of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Fred Miller of Rt. 2, Smithsburg.

Services will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Charles Reider and the Rev. Paul Curfman will officiate; burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7 to 9.

The family request the omission of flowers, and memorial donations may be made to Washington County Chapter of American Cancer Society, 1610 Oak Hill Ave. Hagerstown.
