Veteran Of Civil War and Well Known Citizen
Of Sycamore Is No More.
The death of William A. Austin,
for many years a resident of Sycamore,
at his home in this city on Friday
night last was a surprise to all, as
he had been about town only a few
davs before, and although he had nut
been strong for several years, he was
in his usual health until stricken with
pneumonia, which caused his death.
William A. Austin was born at
Sugar Grove, Kane county, Ill., in
1845. He was a son of Amasea
Comslock Austin and Roley White
Austin. His ancestors came to tuis
country in the Mayflower. His
grandfather was a soldier of the Revolutionary
war, his father was-a soldier
of the War of 1812, bis oldest
brother a soldier ot tne Mexican war.
and Mr. Austin was a soldier of the
Civil war. He enlisted from DeKalb
on May 14, 1864 and served with
credit to the close of the war when
be received his honorable discharge
Mr. Austin spent his boyhood and
early manhood in DeKalb. He was
married to Margaret Phelps in 1866 in
Sycamore. He leaves five children to
mourn his loss: Lillie B., now of Freeport,
Ill, and Mrs. Alice Hoffman,
Mrs. Maude Dennis, William F. and
Charles A., all of Sycamore. All
were present when the end came.
Mrs. Austin died on June 2, 1903.
Mr. Austin also leaves four brothers
and a sister. He was a loyal citizen
and a kind neighbor.
The funeral services were conducted
by Rev. F. W. Miliar at th e
Oniversalist oburon this Tuesday afternoon
at 2 :30 o'clock. The interment
was In Elm wood cemetery.
