Cecil C. Coon, 42-year-old National Guard employee, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday in the local hospital. He had been stricken
suddenly ill at his home, 121 Austin Street, about two hours earlier.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Scott's Chapel, with Rev. Frank L. Turner Jr. officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were O.K. Davis Jr., Don Thompson, Nelson Newton, Wade Young, J. C. Vandyke, Jerry Barton, Louis Schange and Billy Veazey.
Mr. Coon was born near Moody July 31, 1921. He was married to Miss Joyce Cross Jan. 11, 1946, and they lived in Gatesville and vicinity until moving to South Texas in 1954.
They returned to Gatesville in 1959, and Mr. Coon had been employed since at the Texas National Guard's field equipment concentration site at North Fort Hood, where he was a senior mechanic. He also operated a pest extermination service.
A veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the local National Guard company.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife and son, Paul Coon, of Gatesville; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Coon of Gatesville; two brothers, Dale Coon of Coos Bay, Oregon, and Lester Coon of Midland; and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Strickland of Waco, Mrs. Aileen Allen of Moody and Mrs. Agnes Comer of Oglesby.
