Windall Joe Rose, known to most as "Pappy", died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Hendrick Medical Center at the age of 86. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Brother James Spalding officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
The son of Ethel (Neely) and Joe Rose, he was born on February 22, 1919, in Rule, Texas. He had been a resident of Abilene for sixteen years, moving to Abilene from San Bernardino, California. Mr. Rose was a heavy equipment operator for the Kaiser Corporation.
He was a Baptist and a U. S. Army veteran. Pappy wore cowboy boots and hats, and loved rodeos. He was endowed with a great sense of humor.
He was predeceased by one wife, Alice Rose, whom he mar- ried in Las Vegas in the 1960's. His parents, six brothers and sisters, a grandson, and a great-grandson also preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Rose of Adelanto, CA, Richard Rose of Bend, OR, and Dennis Rose of Squaw Valley, CA; daughters, Bettye Moore of Abilene, Peggy Howard of Redlands, CA, and Mona Grant of Adelanto, CA; a brother, Rolland Rose of Abilene; a sister, Joy Spalding of Hamlin; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and former wife, Mary Frances Scott of Adelanto, CA.
