Cora "Inez" Burruss, 94, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at her residence. She was the widow of Carlton Christian Burruss.
Born in Nelson County on Aug. 13, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Robert Bransford Banton and Virginia Kincade Banton. She retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation and was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Philip T. Burruss (Phyllis) of Fayetteville, Ga.: a daughter, Betty B. Bomar (Melford) of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Lori B. Jennings (Chris), Melanie Burruss, Todd Burruss (Krista) and Scott Bomar (Karla); six great-grandchildren, Cooper Burruss, Jessica Jennings, Leslie Jennings, Joshua Bomar, Caleb Bomar and Sara Beth Bomar; a sister-in law, Dorothy Rucker (Donald); and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Janet Hawkins. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, beginning at noon, and other times at the residence.
