Mildred Miller Marshall, 91, of Matthews, North Carolina, formerly of Charlottesville and Basye, Virginia, died February 25, 2010 in Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews after a brief illness.
A daughter of the late David J. and Meta Rhodes Miller, she was born April 17, 1918 in Barboursville, Virginia.
On November 27, 1935 she was married to Woodie Gordon Marshall in Charlottesville, Virginia where they lived until his death on October 22, 1987 and where she continued to live until 2003. At that time she moved to Basye, Virginia to make her home with her son and daughter-in-law, David and Harriet Marshall. In 2009 they moved to Matthews, North Carolina.
Mildred was a loving mother and homemaker, who also worked at Tilman's Department Store and Miller & Rhoads, both in Charlottesville. For over fifty years she was an ardent genealogist, researching both her and her husband's family roots. She often did research for other people as a volunteer at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Historical Society. Mildred was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville and in later years attended Covenant Presbyterian of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
She is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Harriet; by her daughter, Adele M. Conniff, and her husband, Martin, of Connecticut; six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Monday, March 1, at Maplewood Cemetery on Lexington Avenue with the Rev. Greg Marshall officiating.
