SPENCER -- Mr. William Henry "Bill" Bingham, Sr., 89, a resident of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, April 01, 2008 at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
Born January 7, 1919 in McAlester, OK, he was the son of the late James Garfield Bingham and Janie Hammond Bingham.
Mr. Bingham grew up in Randolph County, and was educated in the Asheboro City Schools. He served in the United States Army from 1941-1945, with two years in the European campaign. He retired from the Southern Railway Company after 41 years of service. A faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Spencer, he served on the Church Council, and the Church Property Committee. He was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #361. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists.
Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Marguerite Cline Bingham; son, William "Bill" Henry Bingham, Jr. (Margaret) of Garner; daughters, Lisa Bingham Perdue (Toby), and Deborah "Debbie" Bingham, both of Spencer; two grandsons, Jason Perdue (Melissa) of Concord, and Eric Perdue (Shannon) of Salisbury; four great-grandchildren, Will Perdue and Connor Perdue of Concord, and Jacob Perdue and Caitlyn Perdue of Salisbury; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Bingham of Asheboro.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Lee Bingham, Homer Bingham, Glenn Bingham, and Carl Bingham.
Funeral services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 3 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Carrie Bishop officiating. Entombment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 2, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Summersett Funeral Home.
