Herman Azor Barrier, a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend to all, died early Saturday morning at his home on 202 Sycamore Rd., in Westcliffe, Salisbury, NC. He was the son of the late Mabel Whittington Barrier and Moran J. Barrier being born November 18, 1931 in Burke County. He was educated in the Burke and Avery County Schools. After graduation he entered into the military serving in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service he joined the VA Medical Center working in Virginia and later Salisbury. He later was employed with the American Federation of Government Employees as a national representative.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury.

He was married to the former Edith Stroupe on March 20, 1954. They have three children: two daughters, Mitzi Barrier Weber of Salisbury and her children, Brent and Whitney Alexander, and Karen Barrier Enloe of Asheville and her daughter, Kellie Barrier Stahl, and a son Ricky Alan Barrier of Cleveland and his son, Nigel Azor Barrier. Also surviving is a brother, Clifford Wade Barrier of Salisbury and a sister, Melba Winter of Hickory.

A visitation will be held Monday night at Summersett Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2005 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Lance officiating.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton St., Salisbury, NC 28144
