Walter married Ann Freeman and they had four children. He retired from the Air Force.

From his Memorial Service:

A man of extraordinary character, dedicated to his Lord, his wife, his family, and his country and willing to give his life for all. A man of great strength and courage, yet gentle and loving. A man of intelligence and humor, always cheerful, often sacrificing self for the sake of others. His passing has left a great void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Yet, we also rejoice in the knowledge that he is with his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:39/39
