Irvin Fair Is Found Dead Near Pines Church With Shotgun Wound in Heart

This afternoon at 2:20 o'clock the body of Irvin Fair, about 65, was found on. The Pines Lutheran church grounds. A single barrel shotgun lay across the man's legs. A charge through the heart had caused death.
Dr. Edgar A. Miller. Adams county coroner, was summoned and was expected to arrive later this afternoon and issue a certificate of suicide.
Fair, who had been a patient at the Adams county home for about 1 year, had been discharged a month ago and had since been hired on the farm of John Shauebrook, near New Chester.
This morning he had been helping Shanebrook haul manure and while he latter drove to the field Fair appeared and took with him Shanebrooks single barrelled shot gun It was not until midaftemoon that Shanehrook learned of Fair's death.
The body was found by Gilbert Ross, of near Pines church, Roy Slock and Raymond Ross, son of Gilbert.
The men had been working: near the church and earlier in the afternoon had seen Fair wandering about with the gun under his arm. About 1:15 o'clock this afternoon Ross sent word to Sheriff B. W. Spence of Fair's actions.
The Sheriff with Deputy B. E. Bixler and Corporal J. G. Warren and Private Batuhaf, of the state motor police at Gettysburg, prepared to go to New Chester to take the man into custody.
A few minutes before they left word was received that Fair had shot himself.
Fair was twice married but survived both wives.
There are three children. Maurice and James Fair. Tyrone township, and Mrs. Violet Brown, at near Square Comers, surviving:. Mr. Fair was a farmer and had lived in the New Chester section most of his life.
