The son of Samuel and Mary Walker Bailey, of Mercer county, West Virginia; believed to be the youngest.

Brother of Chrispianos Walker Bailey, Nancy Bailey Bailey, Jamison Walker Bailey, Addison Crockett Bailey, Charles Walker Bailey, Isabel Elizabeth Bailey Minor Bailey, and Louisa C. Bailey Day Bailey.

CSA Veteran, Private, Company H, 60th Reg. Virginia Infantry with Captain John A. Pack. He served as a musician, enlisting at Princeton (WV) 1861. He was 22 when he took the amnesty oath and was sent north 27 April 1863.

His five brothers were CSA veterans, as were his brothers in law. His brother Jamison is buried at Levita cemetery in Coryell county, Texas - the others in West Virginia.

John Walker Bailey was a Baptist Minister and preached in Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Texas. He was married in Mercer county, WV at the age of 17, to Sarah Cecil. The date of marriage was 7 Oct 1858. Their first child was born in Oct. 1859 in Mercer county, VA (now WV).
