DEATH OF JESSE A. IKERD.
Uncle Jesse A. Ikerd, an old and respected citizen, died at his home a few miles east of town Sunday forenoon, and was buried at Leatherwood at 11 o'clock Monday a.m., Elder Small conducting services. Mr. Ikerd was 85 years of age.

OBITUARY.
The funeral of Jesse Ikerd, an old pioneer and Christian, took place from the Leatherwood church last Monday morning, before a house full of those who knew and loved him. Eld. James Small and Eld. John Williams conducted the services. The songs sung were tender and appropriate. Mr. Ikerd was over 85 years of age at his death. He was the oldest man in the township and was an honored citizen and a faithful member of the Leatherwood Church of Christ; and a kind, hospitable, honest, God fearing man. JESSE A. IKERD is a native of Lincoln County, North Carolina(sic), born April 15, 1816(sic), the ninth of ten children of JOHN and MARGARET (SMITH) IKERD, both natives of North Carolina, who came to Indiana (Lawrence County) about 1818. Jesse A. remained on his father's farm during youth, but at the age of eighteen years, with nothing but his hands and his energy, began doing for himself, without education, save the rudiment. In March, 1836, he married ELIZA SMITH, who has borne him nine children, of whom the following seven are now living: JOHN, who married SUSAN ROUT(sic); PETER, who married MARY ROUT(sic); JOSEPH, who married MARY J.BEAVERS; MARGARET, who married HARVEY SWAN; WILLIAM H., who married MARY STIPP; POLLY S., who became the wife of JAMES TAGUE(sic), and JAMES M. April 28, 1881, Mrs. Ikerd died, and October 1, 1883, he married ELIZABETH SMITH. Mr. Ikerd is an industrious, thoughtful and prosperous farmer, owning a fine farm of 400 acres. He is a Republican, and he and wife are members of the Christian Church. His parents were true pioneers in Indiana, and passed through all the hardships incident thereto.
