Albert Daniel Hyde, 84, of Basehor, Kan., passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Sunset Hills Christian Church, 6347 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church.
Albert was born on August 4, 1925, in Osceola, Mo., to Bert and Lillie Belle (Terry) Hyde. He was the third oldest of 12 siblings. Albert and his family moved to Kansas City in 1951. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Albert fought in battles in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, five Bronze Stars, a Distinguished Unit Badge, and two Purple Hearts. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson and playing Bingo for quarters. Albert was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5851, American Legion Post 199, and the Insulation Production Workers Local Union #1. He retired after 33 years of service from Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Fairfax. He married the love of his life, Bertie (Sanders) Hyde, on April 14, 1973.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and seven sisters. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Bertie Hyde; two sisters, Susie Grossman and Thelma Decker; four daughters, Rachel Moritz (Dennis), Ramona Ammerman, Carrie Bull and Lori Goodfellow; two sons, Daniel Hyde (Sun Yol) and Michael Hyde (Sharon); six grandchildren, Jonathan, Renee, Michelle, Morine, Rebecca, Ralene, and five great grandchildren. A special thanks for loving care given to Albert and Bertie from Dr. Nalini Premsingh, Tonganoxie Nursing Center, and Providence Hospital.
