Adeline Mary Howey was born in Central City, Dakota Territory,(SD) April 24, 1879, to parents Thomas A. and Ida Viola Howey, one of the earliest pioneer families in the Black Hills.
In 1889, when Newcastle was less than a month old, the Howey family moved here, and Thomas Howey operated a brick plant for the Kirkpatrick Brothers and Collins, a firm founding the town. Addie attended school in Newcastle.
She married Thomas Addis Brennan June 24, 1898. They then moved to Sheridan. They lived in Casper a short time, at Corinth, MT, and Hardin, MT, where Thomas died November 25, 1925.
Five children to born to this union--Viola Anna, Patrick Allen, Thomas Earl, Agnes May, and John Simon. The first four children were born in Sheridan, WY; and John was born in Hardin, MT.
Addie married Arthur Bacon, a rancher in the Limestone area, December 11, 1930, in Newcastle, WY. Step children in this marriage were--Irma, Paul, Loren, and Mervin. He died in May 1946.
Addie moved to Seattle, WA, in 1950, returning to Newcastle in 1962. For the past seven months she had been a resident of Weston Manor.
Addie passed away Sunday, February 08, 1970,at the Weston County Memorial Hospital after being ill for some time. She is buried with Thomas Brennan in Sheridan, WY, in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Requiem mass will be said Tuesday in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church at Newcastle by the Rt.Rev. Msgr. F.J. Kimmett. Rosary srvices are set for Monday, at the McColley Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial has been established to the Weston Manor, with Mrs. Vi Brennan in charge.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick and John Brennan of Hardin, MT; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Hanlon of Seattle, WA, and Mrs. Lynn Feaster, Newcastle; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Miller and Mrs. Louis Sauer of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Mrs. Jesse Jenkins, Newcastle; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Thomas Earl Brennan, Newcastle; four stepchildren, Mrs. Erma Cruisenberry and Paul Bacon of Sioux Falls, SD, and Loren and Mervin Bacon, Sheridan; eleven grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Earl, in June 1969; also a sister, and four brothers.
On her marriage record to Thomas Brennan June 24, 1898, her name was listed as Adelaide.
Adeline Brennan was the plot owner.
