James "Jim" Otis Hale, age 52, went to live with the Lord on February 2, 2012 after a brave and courageous battle against cancer. He passed away at MUSC in Charleston, SC. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Rebecca "Becki" H. Hale; three sons, James B. Hale II of Huntsville, AL, Matthew Jacob Hale of Charleston, SC, and Noah O. Hale of Bluffton, SC; two daughters, Emily G. Hale of Columbia, SC, and Rachel E. Hale of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Anita (Ron) H. Lewis of Denver, NC, and Brenda H. (Michael) Whicker of Lexington, NC; 27 nieces and nephews, 5 aunts, and 3 uncles. He was the son of the late James Beacher and Geraldine Edna Brown Hale. Jim was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and raised in Kernersville, NC, but made his home in South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina where he met his wife and obtained his Bachelor degree in journalism, a Masters in Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate in Law. Jim started his own law firm on Hilton Head Island, SC in 1989. He was a member and past president of the Bluffton Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Jim was one of the charter members of the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church and on the original pastoral search committee that brought Frank Sells to the Lowcountry. He was always an active community volunteer with his children's schools and in Scouting. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and a great friend. Jim always had a story to share and was helpful to anyone in need. He had a great sense of humor and a love of politics, law, and, of course, his Carolina Gamecocks. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Friday, February 3, 2012 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton. A funeral service will be held at Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1 pm. The family will receive friends immediately after in the church Fellowship Hall. The burial will follow at 3:30 pm at Lowcountry Memorial Gardens, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton.
