Dr. Joseph Murray Baxter, well-known physician, dies
Dr. Joseph Murray Baxter, well-known retired Frederick physician who resided at Jug Bridge, died Tuesday, April 22 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rhea B. Longley Baxter. Born March 17, 1893 at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, he was a son of the late Dr. George Oliver and Margaret A. Titus Baxter.
Dr. Baxter served the Frederick area as a physician from 1928 until his retirement in 1972, his medical career spanning 50 years as a private practitioner. He was a 1916 graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, receiving his degree in engineering, then graduated from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, School of Medicine in 1922. Dr. Baxter was a member of the Canadian Medical Council, the Frederick County Medical Society, a 50-year member of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland and a member of the American Medical Association. The Smith, Fadely, Keeney and Basford Funeral Home (formerly Etchison's), 106 East Church Street, is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no viewing of calling at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Those desiring may make contributions in memory of Dr. Baxter to the St. John's Catholic Church building fund.
