Louis Bernard Petty, age 72, of San Angelo, passed from this life on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at his residence.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1931, in San Angelo, to John and Kate Menielle Petty. Bernard graduated from San Angelo High School in 1950, where he excelled in football as a receiver and was highly recruited. He played at TAMU before injuries forced him to stop playing.

He married La Verne King on Nov. 24, 1956, in San Angelo, and worked in the oilfield industry for two to three years. He ranched in Coke County for eight years. He was a Conoco consignee in Brady for 25 years and was the co-owner of Integrity Systems in Brady for 16 years, before
retiring in 1999-2000. They moved back to San Angelo in 2001. While living in Brady, Bernard was active in the community,supporting local athletics, and was a very devoted Christian. Even after moving to San Angelo, Bernard continued to support athletics in Brady and
maintained his devotion to his Lord as a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Dr. Tommy King and Ed Enzor officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Courtney King, Patrick Mitcham, Jim Berkshire, Tyson Verastegui of San Angelo,
Wayne King of Bronte, Tommy Donohoo of Granbury, John Campbell of Brady and Mark Blau of Menard. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Allen and Darrell Phillips of Robert Lee, Robert Barnhill, Lewis Jordan, Jerry Simpson and Charles Brewster of Brady, Lewis Sharp of Granbury,
Ed Enzor of Abilene, and Joe Russell, Steve Stewart, Jim Gabriel,James Crowder, Pat Hall and Bernard Beck of San Angelo.

His survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, La Verne; daughter, Kim Coleman of San Angelo; son, James W. Petty of Brady; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Petty of Waco; sisters-in-law, Bobbye Petty of Granbury and Bonnie Alley of San Angelo; aunt, Mary Petty
of San Angelo; nieces and nephews, Menielle and Tommy Donahoo of Granbury, Krista and Greg Bates and Kate and Carter Dalton; four grandchildren, Ashley Mitcham and husband, Patrick, of San Angelo, Courtney Evans of San Angelo and Chelsea and Callie Petty of Brady;and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Mitcham and Lauren Verastegui of San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Petty; uncles, Jim R. Petty and L.B. Menielle; aunt, Norine Menielle; and his wife's parents, Riley and Audrey King.
