George R. Byrge, 73, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1936 in the New River Community of Anderson County.
He was a lifelong resident of this area. He retired from Oak Ridge High School and was a veteran of the Unites States Army.
He was preceded in death by parents, Cecil and Pauline Brummett Byrge; and by a sister, Jewell Lively.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Armes Byrge of Oliver Springs; sons and daughters-in-laws, Gary Wayne Byrge and Karina of Oliver Springs, and Anthony Scott Byrge and Wanda Lynn of Harriman; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Byrge Vance and Rob of Knoxville; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Virginia Johnson and Bill of Claxton and Linda Lively and Larry of Harriman; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Byrge and Sandra, Lonnie Byrge and Nancy and Paul Byrge, all of Oliver Springs, Bobby Byrge of Knoxville and Tommy Byrge and Rachel of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 30, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge and the Rev. David Armes officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
